Auditions

Singers are accepted into the SMYOC Choral Program through an individual audition, by appointment only, with a Choir Conductor. Entry to all SMYOC groups is by audition.

Leonardtown or Prince Frederick?

SMYOC holds choir auditions and rehearsals at 2 locations: Patuxent Presbyterian Church and Calvert Middle School. You may decide which location is most convenient for you and let us know which one you've chosen on the Audition Application Form. Please note that SMYOC will not constrain your location choice. The only factor is your own preference; we anticipate that most applicants will choose the location closest to home.

At each location, there are 2 choirs:

  • A Preparatory Choir
    • For less experienced singers.
  • A Youth Choir
    • For more experienced singers who have previously performed in choral ensembles.

Audition Dates

Auditions are held throughout the year. They are usually held immediately before choir rehearsals, on Monday evenings. Once you have submitted your online application form, you will be invited, by email, to choose an audition date from a list. If you are unable to make any of the date(s) or time(s) of the auditions, please contact SMYOC. An additional audition may be granted at the discretion of the Conductor.

Rehearsals

Choir rehearsals usually take on Monday evenings. We publish our rehearsal dates, times and venues on our website and via Google Calendar, which you will be invited to view once you've joined us.
